Your role

SUMMARY: 

Incumbent uses "Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices" (RAGAGEP) - for, operations, engineering and maintenance activities. Incumbent applies established codes, standards, published technical reports or recommended practices (RP) or similar documents including best engineering practices, in all inspection and mechanical integrity activities.

The incumbent manages a project engineer, a controls engineer, a CAD specialist, and an IT specialist.  Through a Maintenance Manager and a Maintenance Specialist, the incumbent leads the union maintenance personnel, spare parts storeroom, and utilities departments within a chemical API pharmaceutical and batch plant. Incumbent indirectly oversees mechanical and soft skill contractors, resident and temporary.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Highly focused on EHS practices. Applies Maintenance and Reliability concepts and Mechanical integrity principles to eliminate and prevent incidents, not limited to process, environmental, industrial hygiene, and occupational safety.
  • Drives the automation requirements to meet safety, environmental and quality standards with a 5 year plan
  • Utilizes mechanical integrity best practices to eliminate quality deviations and proactively implement capital projects to improve the quality performance of the site, including automation.
  • Accountable for the evaluation and realization of all capital improvement projects ($2-$10 M/yr).
  • Responsible and accountable for both the annual Capital Improvement Plan for each budget year, along with developing and continually updating a site-wide, 5-year Capital Development Plan.
  • Directly manages large capital projects as needed
  • Accountable for the maintenance planning and scheduling in accordance to mechanical integrity and by applying best reliability practices.
  • Drives continuous improvement in the maintenance organization by utilizing best practice- Maintenance- KPIs; not limited to, schedule adherence, emergency vs normal maintenance work, plan versus actual work, Mean Time Between Failure, Mean Time Between Repairs, net working capital ratios in storeroom, etc.
  • Utilizes operational metrics like OEE to measure departmental and personal performance with respect to technical availability
  • Accountable for the continuous supply of all utilities to production (purified water, steam, electricity, nitrogen, etc.)
  • Develops maintenance and engineering departmental budget, cost controls, and is responsible for meeting the agreed-upon budget.
  • Ensures the efficiency and continuous improvement of business processes pertaining to the department.
  • Possess deep knowledge in regulations and mechanical integrity standards to be in compliance to all but not limited to State and Federal codes, Process Safety and TCPA requirements.
  • Participates as the equipment and automation subject matter expert in plant engineering in PHAs and PSSRs and Risk Assessments
  • Ensures that ethical, legal and behavioral conduct comply with the Siegfried Code of Conduct.
  • Participates as a member of the senior management team in the implementation of strategic directives.
  • Collaborates with the defining and structuring of strategic measures.
  • Participates in defining and controlling strategic measurements and cost management.
  • Understands and applies best mechanical reliability practices in the preventive maintenance programs.
  • Familiar with technology available for mechanical integrity
  • All other duties as assigned.

Your profile

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • An MS in Chemical or Mechanical  Engineering or equivalent and 7 years of experience managing an engineering and maintenance department in a pharmaceutical or chemical batch plant environment.
  • Proven record of applying Maintenance and Reliability best practices in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in major project management is a must.
  • Knowledge of cGMP

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Negotiation and Influential skills are a must
  • Superb communication, both in writing and verbally
  • Work efficiently with people of all levels and cultures
  • Prefer experience with continuous improvement practices utilizing Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing, etc.
  • Demonstrated time management and prioritization skills
  • Prefer Certifications on Maintenance and Reliability Professional or Certification as a Project Management Professional or similar.
