Your role

The principal responsibility of the Senior Research Scientist, Analytical Development is method development and validation in support of chemical development. The Senior Research Scientist is expected to demonstrate expertise in both the theoretical and practical aspects of analytical chemistry.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Understand the tests necessary to characterize an API and continually expand technical knowledge
2. Develop expertise in the drug development process, the internal steps necessary to manufacture API at this site, as well as the theoretical and practical aspects of general analytical chemistry
3. Use research knowledge to effectively plan and manage day-to-day work cycle operations of a project; stay current with changes in applicable field
4. Provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems
5. Implement work plans; conduct performance reviews with the assistance of a higher-level manager. Independently determine and develop approach to solutions
6. Plan work to meet personal project objectives and deadlines; assess the needs and make changes in process, workflow and/or assignments. Coordinate multiple, concurrent assignments on a multi-faceted research project
7. Communicate effectively with internal and external customers
8. Frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques. Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in scientific area
9. Recommend and implement methods to increase the quality of products and/or service
10. Contribute to the completion of milestones associated with specific projects
11. Manage workload and time to perform multiple projects effectively, and ensure all necessary paperwork is completed on a timely basis
12. Display the ability to assimilate previously gained knowledge and experience and apply those concepts, techniques, etc. to new and related project areas
13. Conduct laboratory operations in a safe manner. Maintain familiarity with the Chemical Hygiene Plan. Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices
14. Follow responsible actions regarding chemical disposal. Maintain compliance with all regulations at the federal, state, and local levels 
15. Assist in proposal development 
16. Develop efficient, selective analytical procedures for assigned compounds. Process samples with developed method in an efficient manner
17. Possess laboratory skills that allow for the methods development and processing of samples of materials that are difficult to handle or analyze. Possess the accumulated knowledge to approach such materials efficiently and safely 
18. Demonstrate proficiency in multiple techniques.

Your profile

SUPERVISION: This position may have supervisory duties.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field OR Master’s degree in chemistry or related field
Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience
OR Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
1. Ability to assimilate previously gained knowledge and experience and apply those concepts, techniques, etc. to new and related project areas 2. 2.Expertise in the analysis of compounds using a range of analytical techniques
3. Ability to understand and use basic risk assessment and root cause tools
4. Chemical Hygiene training
5. Basic understanding of ALCOA
6. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents
7. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community
8. Ability to give presentations and/or write articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format
9. Ability to effectively present information to coworkers, management, and/or public groups 
10. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
11. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations
12. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
13. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases
